PAG-IBIG ATBP.

As in. Haha! Pero sorry, it’s how I write. Kaya bear with me. Namiss ko yung writing without agenda. I mean… just writing as a way of expressing one’s self. Walang rules at standard na sinusunod. Writing not just for others but only for yourself. I don’t know if I make sense here but who cares! Blog ko ito. Haha! LOL!

So what’s the story behind the title?

I’ve been in this social experiment of deactivating my Facebook account for a number of personal valid reasons. (Is there such an invalid reason ba? Malay ko.)

Newsfeed is a constant source of stress.

It will distract you. Sasabihin mo sa sarili mo, “Okay. Mag-scroll lang ako ng 5 minutes.” Then hindi mo na namamalayan, nakalipas na ang one hour… then 2 hours… hanggang maka-5 hours ka na. Been there. Done that. Stressful siya in a sense na after long hours, feeling mo wala ka na namang nagawa. Stressful siya in a sense na you will tend to compare your success to somebody’s success (as what you have seen on their post in the newfeeds).

Maiba ako, I have this recent discovery. Try to search this phrase “negative effects of Facebook” in Google. You will notice that there are no major websites that published articles about that. The number one in the list is from paggu.com. Pambihira! First time kong marinig/makita ang website na iyon. Hindi man laang sila nagsulat about that? Anyway, mukhang may something wrong.

  • Comparing yourself to your Facebook friends is depressing
  • Your mood is affected by what your Facebook friends post
  • And Facebook itself probably doesn’t help your mood
  • Lurking or feeling ostracized on Facebook hurts your self esteem

Basahin mo din ang article ng Psychology Today: 7 Ways Facebook Is Bad for Your Mental Health.

He is really a brilliant guy! Kudos!

By the way, hindi ko sinasabing walang magandang dulot ang Facebook. I’m just particularly talking about the negative effects that it can bring.

So ayun nga. I deactivated my Facebook pero gumawa ako ng dummy account kasi I need to retain the Facebook pages I’m managing. I received some texts from people who are close to me. They are asking me if I blocked them on Facebook because they can’t search my account. Siyempre nagpaliwanag pa ako. Hirap din mag-explain. haha!

I believe that from 1000 or 2000 Facebook friends that you have, only 10% or less will recognized that you are not in Facebook anymore once you deactivate. Try mo! Para mapatunayan natin ang theory ko. So I suggest that you invest your time in building friendships in real life (and not virtually).

Another segway.

  • From a total population of 101 million in the Philippines, 119 million have mobile phone subscription. Ibig sabihin ganoon karami ang may cellphones. Lampas pa sa populasyon. Yung iba kasi more than one phone ang meron.
  • Out of that 119 million, 80% are subscribed to the lowest speed tier plans (1-3 Mbps).
  • Time spent online: 3.2 hours on mobile and 5,2 hours on desktop and table.
  • Top online activities: Facebook (47%).
  • There are now 47 million  active Facebook accounts in the PH.

Kidding aside, I know we can use Facebook to help us in fulfilling the Great Commission.

Dati kasi talagang bago matulog at pagkagising, I make sure na I checked my Facebook. Siyempre baka nag-like or nagreply sa messenger si crushAminin! May ganyang moments kayo. Kala ninyo ha! 🙂

One thing din talaga na I want to deal (or should I say God wants to deal with me) ay ang time ko sa paggamit ng Facebook. It becomes an idol.

What is an idol? Well, it is the thing. It is the thing loved or the person loved more than God, wanted more than God, desired more than God, treasured more than God, enjoyed more than God. It could be a girlfriend. It could be good grades. It could be the approval of other people. It could be success in business. It could be sexual stimulation. It could be a hobby or a musical group that you are following or a sport or your immaculate yard. – Desiring God

Ay malapit na palang mag-alas dose. I need to post it na! Weh?! I highly recommend that you read the article of my Pinoy-Canadian blogger friend (Elle) entitled Facebook: Killing You Softly.

By the way, abangan ninyo ang May 6. ❤

PS: I don’t know if nabigyan ko ba ng hustisya ang title ko. I’ll try better next time. Haha!

I can definitely relate, I know what you mean. That’s precisely why I deactivate my personal FB account and concentrate on priority tasks. There seems too many fake news and depressing information people share. Somehow there should only be a balance on what you can read, assimilate and take in personally. More power at pugay po!

Puro fb…Dami kong sinabi.

Thanks for sharing your story din. Use Facebook at your own risk. Hehe Cheers! 🙂
