Babae, lalaki, bata, matanda, may trabaho at wala.
2,053 – Cases of suicide in the Philippines in 2013

Grabe pala ano! That means there is one suicide attempt every 40 seconds.
Although there are 4.5 million depressed Filipinos – the highest in Southeast Asia — only one out of three who suffer from depression will seek the help of a specialist. One third will not even be aware of their condition. – World Health Organization
Our Champion (Mental Health PH) who presented their challenges in #HackManila, gave us a presentation and we are about to create a solution for this.
We created #TalkToSomeJuan which is a website app that aims to connect depressed people to support groups. Its main feature is a chatting space where these clients can talk to volunteers who are professionally trained for handling conversations regarding depression and suicidal thoughts. Our goal is to provide a space where people can seek help where they won’t be judged. And let them know that there will always be SomeJuan they can talk to.
Sa ngayon, our app is in development stage pa rin. It’s not yet up. Grabe pala ang hirap maging coder. Though hindi naman ako ang gumagawa noon during the #HackManila event. Thanks to the team! Ako lang ang hindi programmer/developer. 🙂 For two nights na puyatan, nakita ko na awesome ang maging isang IT, Computer Scientist, Developer or Software Engineer. Awesome kayo!
They are more than willing to help you.

#MentalHealthPH envisions an inclusive and empowered community for people affected by mental health problems in the Philippines by promoting and protecting mental health through social media. We strive to engage the community in social media to increase discussion and reduce stigma on mental illness, provide a platform for the community to share their mental health stories, and, collaborate and link with other organizations or groups to unify initiatives in line with the group’s mental health advocacy.

Iyan ang totoong tunay. 🙂
